Moderate Larjani is appointed head of the Iranian Supreme National Security Council

Ali Larzani, a veteran politician known for his moderate attitude, especially in foreign policy, was appointed head of the Iranian Supreme National Security Council, state media today. The Council is responsible for defining policy in the fields of defense and security of Iran and its decisions are ratified by the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic, Ayatollah Ali Hameni. A former member of the Revolution Guards “Ali Larzani is appointed Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council by decree of President Massoud Peskian”, IRNA reported earlier. He succeeds Ali Akbar Ahmantian, a general of the guards of the revolution, who held this position since May 2023.
