Modern graphics card for only $160. Radeon RX 6400 benchmarks show what the new product is capable of in the PCIe 3.0 slot

The recently released Radeon RX 6400 graphics card with a suggested price of $160 is one of the most affordable offers on the market, even if you take into account the very old budget adapters. But the first tests, where the novelty performed at the level of the GTX 1650, were carried out on a motherboard with PCIe 4.0 support. At the same time, as in the case of the RX 6500 XT, AMD’s new product has only four PCIe lanes, and if installed in a PCIe 3.0 slot, it may lose performance. And given the price, such a card will be bought mainly by owners of fairly old PCs.

And now, tests of the RX 6400 appeared on the Web, firstly, including when installed in a PCIe 3.0 slot, and secondly, with a large number of participants.

As you can see, the RX 6400 does perform on par with the GTX 1650 in modern games on average, slightly behind the RX 570 and about 30% behind the RX 6500 XT. At the same time, the RX 6400 in a PCIe 4.0 slot provides the same performance as the RX 6500 XT in a PCIe 3.0 slot. As for the situation when the RX 6400 itself is installed in the old slot, here we have a performance drop of 15% on average, although everything depends very much on the game. But even in this mode, the adapter is still almost 20% faster than the GeForce GTX 1050 Ti, for which in Europe they are now asking for the same money, that is, 180-200 euros or more.

Thus, if we talk about the ratio of price and performance, it is still better to overpay for the RX 6500 XT. But, if for some reason you don’t want to overpay at all, or, for example, you need the most compact and economical adapter, then the RX 6400 has no competitors among the new video cards.
