LAST UPDATE: 15:17

Moderna CEO Stefan Bancell said the company is working to develop a special vaccine for the Omicron variant of the coronavirus, which will be available soon.

In an interview with CNBC, he also said that Moderna will be able to deliver 2 to 3 billion booster doses of its Covid vaccine within a year.

Clinical trials of mRNA-1273,529 are expected to begin earlier this year, with the company saying that a booster dose of its current coronavirus vaccine, mRNA-1273, increased levels of neutralizing antibodies to Omicron in both 50 micrograms as in the 100 micrograms version.

Meanwhile, the company on Monday revised its estimates for sales of its coronavirus vaccine this year, noting that it expects record sales of $ 18.5 billion, and about $ 3.5 billion from possible additional markets, such as candidate booster doses of the vaccine that will be tailored to specific variants of the coronavirus.

In November, the company had predicted that its sales in 2022 could range between 17 and 22 billion dollars.

Moderna added that it is in discussions to sign additional contracts for the sale of vaccines this year,
