Modernism and graffiti: how the 1922 break echoes to this day

In 100 years, a lot has changed in art, whatever the way you express yourself. The idea of ​​rupture, which echoed during the days of the Modern Art Week in 1922, can still be felt, heard and seen today.

Can you imagine going into an art gallery and finding modernist paintings in a different way? In an exhibition at the Catavento Museum, in downtown São Paulo, it is possible.

You can get a better idea of ​​this mix between the classic and the contemporary. Graffiti artists, with spray cans, made reinterpretations of famous works and impressed the public.

After all, it is not new that street artists, the graffiti artists, gain space and, why not, invade, in a good way, art galleries. As the artist Dél Grafite, one of the exponents of urban art, says, “Graffiti already represents resistance. And this is what happened in 22”.
