An ice factory that operated clandestinely on the coast of Rio Grande do Sul was sealed during an operation by the state Public Ministry last Wednesday (9). At the scene, moldy walls and rusty freezers were found. The company also did not present documents about the origin of the water used.
Almost 1.5 tons of ice unfit for consumption was seized at the factory, which is located in Capão da Canoa, a municipality located around 140 kilometers from Porto Alegre.
According to prosecutor Alcindo Luz Bastos da Silva Filho, who monitored the operation, it was found that the establishment did not have authorization to produce ice. The factory did not present licensing from the competent body or a potability report for the water used to make ice. The name of the company was not disclosed.
“The structure had infiltrations, walls with only plaster and mold. Furthermore, the production equipment and freezers were not maintained and had dirt and rust,” said the prosecutor.
