Moldova: President Sandu warns of Russian mixing in the forthcoming parliamentary elections

Moldovan president Maya Sandu said today that the corruption of the elections and illegal foreign funding from Russia are the biggest threats to the September 28 parliamentary elections, allegations rejected by Moscow. In the forthcoming parliamentary elections, the Sandu Action Party may lose the majority in the House of this former Soviet Republic, located between Ukraine and Romania. “The Russian Federation wants to control the Republic of Moldova from autumn onwards and is preparing unprecedented involvement in the September elections,” Sandu said at a press conference in Kisina. The Kremlin today denied that Russia is seeking to mix in the elections. Four pro -Russian parties say they will form a Coalition to claim the victory in the elections and to expel the government, which has pledged to seek integration into the European Union by 2030.
