Payment aggregator MoneyGram plans to release a non-custodial digital wallet that will allow platform clients to convert fiat money into cryptocurrency and back.

MoneyGram CEO Alex Holmes said the new wallet, which “will be focused on using stablecoin technology,” should launch in the first quarter of 2024. The new service is being created in collaboration with developers from the Stellar Development Foundation (SDF).

The non-custodial digital wallet, which will officially debut next year, will use the Stellar network. MoneyGram will also give consumers the ability to cash out in more than 180 countries and deposit funds in more than 30 countries around the world.

The cooperation between MoneyGram and Stellar began at the end of 2022, when the parties announced an agreement and strategic investments in the development of the MoneyGram platform. MoneyGram previously had a partnership with Ripple, but it ended at the beginning of 2021 and has not been renewed.
