The Moonbeam parachain in the Polkadot ecosystem has entered into an agreement with the Osmosis decentralized exchange on the Cosmos blockchain, under which users will be able to exchange tokens between blockchains.
The integration was made possible through the use of the Axelar Network protocol. It is both a bridge between networks and a platform for communication between different networks with support for smart contracts. That is, Axelar Network allows you to both move tokens between blockchains and use smart contracts in other networks.
At first, only the DOT coin will become available for exchange between Polkadot and Cosmos – the corresponding token will be issued on the Cosmos network.
At the same time, Moonbeam developers confirmed plans to increase the number of supported tokens in the Polkadot network. According to them, the new feature will be an important step in expanding blockchain interactions. And, although the Cosmos and Polkadot ecosystems are often described as competing, they can perfectly coexist together.
In May, Polkadot developers launched the XCM internetworking protocol.
