More freedoms in Chile for the fully vaccinated

Maybe its borders Chile remain closed, at least until mid-June, but fully immunized citizens against COVID-19 will be allowed to move more freely within the country, according to the government of Conservative President Sebastian Pinera.

Those who have completed the vaccination cycle will be able to move between municipalities, even if their destinations are quarantined in some cases, and more generally to travel more freely than tomorrow Wednesdayor, according to the government.

As AMPE explains, the other measures, especially in terms of personal protection – use of a mask, observance of the chosen social distance – should continue to be observed by this group of the population.

Chile has immunized more than 50% of its population, ie 7.7 million people, who have now received both doses of their vaccines. It is therefore at the top of the world rankings in terms of the progress of vaccination programs.

So far, the country has recorded 28,548 deaths due to COVID-19 out of a total of 1.3 million cases. coronavirus.

The new freedoms for the growing group of the vaccinated population do not currently include international travel.

Government spokesman Jaime Velolio said the decision to ease traffic restrictions inside Chile should not be seen as a breach of health protocols, explaining that those who “pose less of a risk to others and to themselves” are simply exempt from certain measures.

Mr. Velolio clarified that the citizens will be given a “traffic pass”, with a QR code accessible via mobile phone, which allows the authorities to immediately change someone’s status in case he becomes infected.

Holders of this “pass” will not be allowed to move during the hours of the night traffic ban and should abide by the restrictions on public gatherings, whether for family or business meetings.

Chilean officials are currently in talks with counterparts in other countries around the world to find a way to also allow international travel with this or a similar system, but have not yet reached a model or agreement.
