More Snapdragon platforms needed. Qualcomm unveils four new SoCs, including one without 4G support

Qualcomm has decided to expand its already very large range of SoCs for smartphones. If earlier only flagship SoCs received the Plus set-top box, and even then not every year, now there are more such products.

So, Qualcomm has introduced four new products: Snapdragon 778G Plus 5G, Snapdragon 695 5G, Snapdragon 480 Plus 5G and Snapdragon 680 4G.

SoC Snapdragon 778G Plus differs from the usual Snapdragon 778G, increased from 2.4 to 2.5 GHz frequency of older processor cores and 20% faster GPU.

The Snapdragon 480 Plus also features an increased CPU frequency (already at 200 MHz) and increased GPU performance. Apparently, there are no other differences.

SoC Snapdragon 695 compared to Snapdragon 690 got mmWave 5G support. In addition, the performance of the processor part has been increased by 15%, and the GPU has become faster by 30%. Moreover, there is also a transition from the 8 nm to 6 nm process technology. As a result, the Snapdragon 695 looks more like the platforms of the Snapdragon 700 line.

As for the Snapdragon 680, this is one of the few fresh platforms without 5G support. The platform is based on the 6 nm process technology, has Kryo 265 processor cores and Adreno 610 GPU.

If we compare this platform with the already middle-aged Snapdraon 665, then the situation is rather ambiguous. They have the same GPU, although not necessarily with the same frequency. The novelty has newer processor cores Kryo 265 versus Kryo 260 and they work at 2.4 GHz versus 2 GHz. At the same time, the old platform has a Snapdragon X12 modem with a download speed of up to 600 Mbps, and the new one has a Snapdragon X11 with a speed of up to 390 Mbps.
