The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Itamaraty) released, this Tuesday (1st), a note in which it states that more than 100 Brazilians managed to leave Ukraine for neighboring countries and that at least another 15 are close to the border areas.
“So far, more than 100 Brazilians have managed to leave Ukraine and go to border countries, especially Poland and Romania, with the support of the Embassies. At least another 15 are close to the border and should be able to leave the country during the day”, says the note from the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Also according to the ministry, “about 80 Brazilians, registered on the list of the Brazilian embassy, remain on Ukrainian soil and are interested in leaving the country”. The ministry estimates that, before the conflict, there were approximately 500 Brazilians in Ukraine.
The note also says that Itamaraty “continues to provide consular assistance to Brazilian nationals who are in the region” and that “the support of the Embassies provides for the possibility of rescue when conditions allow, always prioritizing the safe and orderly evacuation of our nationals” .
The Itamaraty also states that “there are volunteers to help Brazilians at the Lviv train station, close to the Polish border” and that “Embassy staff in Ukraine also provide support at the Chernivtski station, close to the Romanian border”.
“There are also employees of the Embassies in Bucharest and Warsaw providing support in locations close to the border with Ukraine, in order to help the safe movement of Brazilians to the capitals of those countries”, completes the note from the Brazilian government.
Finally, the Itamaraty reaffirms that there are two Brazilian Air Force aircraft “ready to assist the rescue of Brazilians”. “Our embassies have been instructed to ask Brazilians who are evacuated to their jurisdictions if there is interest in repatriation”, concludes the note.
