More than 100 suspects of money laundering through cryptocurrencies arrested in China

Law enforcement agencies in the Chinese city of Zunyi arrested 130 people. They are accused of organizing a large-scale money laundering scheme through cryptocurrencies in the amount of over $ 130 million.

Operation Broken Card was launched by the Zunyi City Police Anti-Fraud Division in July 2021. Subsequently, a special working group was organized to combat the criminal cell. After two months of investigation and gathering of evidence, about 100 suspects of money laundering were arrested. The police also confiscated 51 mobile phones, 15 computers and 511 bank cards.

According to the police, the members of the criminal group committed at least 332 cases of money laundering. In their activities, they actively used digital assets, and the money was laundered through the largest cryptocurrency exchanges – Binance, OKEx and Huobi.

The police noted that the criminals went unnoticed for a long time by law enforcement agencies and bank security services. This has been facilitated by the use of cryptocurrencies, the breaking down of transfers into small chunks, and the use of multiple bank cards.

In early September, Taiwan police arrested fourteen citizens suspected of money laundering, defrauding investors and $ 5.41 million in cryptocurrency fraud.
