More than 100,000 adopted dogs have been returned post-pandemic

The positive news of the boom in dog and other pet adoptions in a pandemic is turning into a tragedy. According to a survey commissioned by Facile.it to Emg different over 117 thousand owners have returned the animal to the kennel or they have entrusted it to another family.

28.3% of those who have taken a dog in the last 2 years (3.4 million in total) said they did it specifically to better overcome the lockdown. About 196,000 said they did it just to be able to leave the house.

Why do so many give up their adopted dog? Too much complex to manage for 63% of the interviewees. 37% said they returned it for material damage caused by the animal.

The rising dropout figure is also confirmed by the National Animal Protection Authority. According to reports LaPresse L’Enpa above all emphasizes the phenomenon of the sale. In 2021 it happened in 17% of cases and this year it has risen to 30. Not everyone decides to take care of an animal inherited from the death of the owner. There are also financial problems (food, veterinarians, etc.) and health problems. There is also the question of unconscious adoptions, of those who have not realized the commitment involved in having an animal.
