More than 1,400 explosions took place on Friday in the two regions of eastern Ukraine where the Ukrainian government and pro-Russian separatists have been fighting since 2014, the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe said today, noting that bombings are rising rapidly.
The self-proclaimed “People’s Republics” of Donetsk and Lugansk are at the center of tensions between Moscow and the West.
The OSCE mission in the war zone said it had recorded 553 explosions in Donetsk and another 860 in Lugansk by 18.30 on Friday. He also confirmed that a civilian had been killed in a government-controlled area of Donetsk.
Violations of the ceasefire on Friday exceeded 1,500, from 870 the previous day, when observers reported 654 explosions.
