More than 2.4 million passengers checked in America today – Highest number since February 2020

The US Transportation Security Administration (TSA) checked 2.45 million passengers on Friday, the highest daily number since February 2020, according to Reuters.

This number was the highest since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, but it still falls short of the 2.73 million that were checked on the same day in 2019.

The high attendance occurred despite the weather conditions and staffing problems that resulted in interruptions. On Friday, US airlines canceled 711 flights and delayed more than 6,000, according to FlightAware.

Travelers are already facing a difficult summer travel in the US, as airlines expect record demand as they restructure their staff following the departure of thousands of workers from the industry during the pandemic.

A TSA spokesman advised passengers to be prepared, saying on Twitter on Saturday: “Go to the airport early, it’s a lot of work!”
