More than 2 million users have signed a letter in defense of Pavel Durov

An open letter from The Open Network (TON) community in support of detained Telegram founder Pavel Durov has collected over 2 million signatures. In it, they call for his immediate release.

“We strongly condemn the arrest of Pavel Durov by the French authorities, which is a flagrant attack on freedom of expression and the right to privacy,” the letter states.

In it, the authors called on the French authorities to immediately release Durov. They also appealed to the EU, the UN and other interested organizations to challenge his detention, supporting the right to freedom on the Internet.

The letter also emphasizes that Telegram complies with EU laws. In particular, this is the Bill “On Digital Services”. At the same time, the content moderation policy in the application meets international standards, the authors of the appeal noted.

The mini-app also states that many famous people have spoken out in support of Durov, including X owner Elon Musk, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin, former CIA agent Edward Snowden, and others.

Durov was arrested on the night of August 25, 2024. He is suspected of a number of charges, including complicity in drug distribution, child pornography, and money laundering.
