Two days after the invitation for the meeting for Ukraine at the American air base Rammstein in West Germany, about half of the countries that had applied for participation have already confirmed their participation, according to Welt. The aim of the consultations is the lasting security and sovereignty of Ukraine.
More than 20 countries have so far confirmed their participation in the conference on Ukraine scheduled for next Tuesday at Rammstein Air Base, according to US sources. About 40 countries have been invited, Secretary of Defense John Kirby told the Pentagon on Friday (local time). He did not say exactly which countries have already accepted. Among them are countries that do not belong to NATO. The meeting will not take place under the umbrella of the Alliance.
US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin has invited participants to the Rhineland-Palatinate conference. Kirby had previously stated that one of the goals of the consultation was the lasting security and sovereignty of Ukraine. Therefore, the conference will have to deal with Ukraine’s defense needs beyond the current Russian offensive war.
The fact that more than 20 countries have already agreed to join in such a short period of time is a strong indication of the importance that the United States and those countries attach to Ukraine’s defense needs, Kirby said on Friday. Responses from invited countries are also pending. The US government announced this week new US $ 800 million military aid to Ukraine.
