According to Kommersant, the cybercriminals put up for sale a database of 21 million users of free VPN services GeckoVPN, SuperVPN and ChatVPN for the Android operating system.
The database contains e-mail addresses, passwords and usernames, including those from Russia. In addition, the archive contains data about users’ devices, including serial numbers, phone types and brands.
SuperVPN is one of the most popular VPN services for Android, with over 100 million downloads on Google Play. GeckoVPN has been downloaded by over 10 million people.

The source adds that SuperVPN user data was already leaked to the public last summer. Igor Bederov, the founder of the Internet-search company, said that the new leak was due to]negligence in handling confidential information: “The service owners simply did not change the default passwords on their database servers.”
This data can be used by cybercriminals for phishing and hacker attacks. Experts once again point out that users of VPN services need to choose unique passwords so that in the event of a leak, fraudsters cannot brute force access to other services with the same password.
