Russia says more than 200,000 people have been evacuated from Russia’s Kursk region, bordering Ukraine, due to the Kiev-led ground incursion.
The Russian Emergency Ministry released a video on Wednesday (14) showing people from the Lgov and Rylsk districts of the Kursk region leaving their homes.
In the footage, local authorities are seen helping elderly residents carry their belongings.
Rylsk is located about 25 kilometers from the border with Ukraine and has a population of approximately 15,000 people, while Lgov located about 46 kilometers from the border has a population of approximately 17,500.
An elderly woman named Galina described how Ukrainian forces attacked “houses at close range” in her area. She said she managed to escape and take shelter in a basement.
Meanwhile, Ukraine has accused Russia of neglecting civilians in Kursk with Ukrainian Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko claiming that residents “were abandoned by Russia without the most necessary things.”
Klymenko said the military is coordinating with his office regarding “local needs for clean water, food, medicine and hygiene kits so that we can organize humanitarian aid as quickly as possible.”
Russia has yet to publicly respond to Ukraine’s accusation.
