More than 250 RJ prisoners released to spend Christmas at home do not return to jail; among them, faction leaders

More than 250 prisoners who left after receiving the benefit of periodic visits to spend Christmas at home did not return to prison in Rio de Janeiro.

According to the Secretariat of Penitentiary Administration (SEAP), they should return by 10pm on December 30th.

In total, 1,785 inmates, who comply with the semi-open regime, benefited from the Periodic Home Visit (VPL), but 255 inmates, including leaders of the largest criminal faction in the State of Rio and dangerous criminals, did not return. All are considered fugitives.

The benefit of periodic visits is granted by the Court to those who have good behavior, are first-time offenders and have served 1/6 of their sentence or are repeat offenders and have served 1/4 of their sentence.

In addition to the 255 who did not return, another 5 received a release permit.

A CNN found that among the fugitives from the penitentiary system are: Saulo Cristiano Oliveira Dias, SL; and Paulo Sérgio Gomes da Silva, known as Bin Laden.

The first is a criminal from Complexo do Chapadão and was arrested in São Paulo in 2013. And the second, Paulo Sérgio, known as Bin Laden, commanded drug trafficking in the Dona Marta favela, located in the Botafogo neighborhood, in the South Zone of Rio. .
