At least 527 people have lost their lives in Iran since anti-government protests began more than four months ago, according to the US-based Human Rights Activists news agency. Among them are 71 minors and 70 members of the police and other security forces, according to the organization’s account.
In total, almost 20,000 people have been arrested and more than 100 of them face the death penalty. Some protesters have already been executed, APE-MBE reports, citing dpa.
The wave of national protest was ignited since the death in custody of Mahsa Amini on 16 September 2022. The Iranian woman of Kurdish origin was arrested by the morality police for wearing her hijab incorrectly. According to the same img, the protests have spread to 160 cities outside the capital Iran. Iranian authorities have not yet released information on the total number of deaths and arrests.
