At least 516 people were already arrested this Thursday (12) in Bahia. The Civil Police execute warrants from the 14th phase of Operation Unum Corpus in Salvador, also in cities in the metropolitan region and in the interior of the state.
The targets of the operation are investigated for involvement in drug trafficking, in addition to crimes against life, property, rape and domestic violence. The objective is to combat crime in Bahia.
Some significant arrests that occurred throughout the day were highlighted by police. In Juazeiro, investigations resulted in the arrest of a suspect identified as one of the largest drug distributors in the São Francisco Valley and in Petrolina (PE). 2.5 kg of cocaine, packages containing marijuana and other supplies for trafficking, a homemade 9mm firearm, ammunition, precision scales, a balaclava and a car were found with him.
In the city of Casa Nova, police arrested a suspect being investigated for two homicides and drug trafficking. She is accused of involvement in the deaths of two victims in the region, one in the District of Santana do Sobrado, in September this year. Investigations indicate that the suspect was part of a local criminal group.
In Amargosa, two suspects were arrested for drug trafficking. In a residence in the Santa Rita neighborhood, police officers located 35 kg of drugs buried in barrels, as well as two motorcycles used to transport the substances and five thousand plastic pins for packaging narcotics.
One of those arrested was also a former president of the Municipal Council of Piripá, in the southwest of Bahia, suspected of committing an attempted murder in April 2023.
In addition to prisons, security forces also seized 55 weapons, 28 vehicles and more than R$62 thousand in cash . Nine legal measures were also carried out against inmates of the prison system suspected of ordering external criminal actions.
Next steps of the operation
With the mobilization of several police stations and specialized units, Operation Unum Corpus continues to execute new warrants and expand investigations. The expectation is that, in the coming hours, more arrests will be made and other illicit materials seized.
