More than 500,000 young people have benefited from the mobile tax exemption

More than half a million young people aged 15 to 29 have successfully applied for exemption from mobile and prepaid telephony charges in mobilefees.gov.gr.

Specifically, from January 10, 2022, the day the platform was launched, 521,557 young people benefited from the fee exemption. In this way, the commitment of the Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis for reduction of the tax on telecommunications is implemented, as he announced in his speech at the Thessaloniki International Fair in September 2021.

The mobilefees.gov.gr was designed by the Ministries of Digital Government and Finance and implemented by the General Secretariat of Information Systems of Public Administration with the assistance of the General Secretariat of Telecommunications and Post. Through the platform, young people from 15 to 29 years old can register their mobile phone in the Register of Beneficiaries of Exemption of Mobile Telephony and Prepaid Telephony Subscribers (M.D.A.Te.), in order to be exempted from mobile and prepaid charges.

It is reminded that the registration is necessary for the exemption of the beneficiary from the fees. The procedure is very simple and is completed with the declaration of AMKA (or PAAPA), the mobile number of the beneficiary and the provider in which the mobile phone number operates for exemption of fees.

The entrance to mobilefees.gov.gr is done through Taxisnet codes:

• or the beneficiary, if he is an adult (18-29 years old),

• or the one who has custody of the beneficiary, if he is a minor (15-17). The custody relationship is checked automatically, after crossing with the Citizens’ Register or alternatively with the form E1 of the most recent income tax return.

Upon completion of the application to the Registry, the mobile service provider is automatically informed of the implementation of the exemption when issuing an invoice or renewing airtime, without requiring any further action on the part of the beneficiary. In case of transfer of the number to another company (portability), the new provider is automatically informed through the Register that the specific number is entitled to exemption. Finally, the exemption for beneficiaries who turn 29 will automatically be terminated.

Please note that each beneficiary can enter a mobile phone number to request an exemption. At any time, the beneficiary can delete the exemption request in one number and activate it in another one in his possession, if he so wishes. Citizens can submit more than one application if they have more than one beneficiary under their care. For the immediate and complete information of the beneficiary, it is provided that the SMS be sent to the mobile number registered in the Register in case of any change in the status of his application, such as deactivation by him, deactivation by provider, portability.

“Another commitment by the Prime Minister and the New Democracy Government has come true,” he said. Minister of Finance Christos Staikouras He added: “In just one month, more than 500,000 young people, aged 15-29, have taken advantage of their mobile and prepaid phone exemption. We continue to serve, consistently and diligently, our strategic goal “To alleviate citizens from the tax burden, as we have consistently done with dozens of tax cuts and insurance contributions over the last 2.5 years. We continue to implement policies with a strong social sign, placing the new generation at the top of our priorities.”

For his part Minister of State and Digital Government Kyriakos Pierrakakis “The abolition of mobile and prepaid telephony charges for the age group of 15 to 29 is an act of support for Kyriakos Mitsotakis for young people. It is proof that the Government is implementing initiatives designed to meet the needs of each social group. “A significant response within a little over a month confirms our strategy. We are reducing the tax burden in a targeted way, so that each of our interventions has added value for the citizen.”

Finally, the Undersecretary of Finance Apostolos Vesyropoulos “Firmly committed to our commitments, we implemented the Prime Minister’s initiative to exempt young people aged 15-29 from mobile and prepaid telephony charges, proving in practice once again the social orientation of the Government of Kyriakos Mitsotakis. The great return reaffirms the need to implement such targeted initiatives and urges us to continue our efforts to respond immediately to the needs of society. ”
