The Brazilian Ministry of Health announced on Thursday that another 2,029 patients with COVID-19 had died in the past 24 hours and 65,163 cases of SARS-CoV-2 had been confirmed.
The death toll from the new coronavirus pandemic in Brazil, Latin America’s largest country with a population of 212 million, has so far reached 520,095 deaths out of a total of 18,622,304 infections, according to official figures, which experts say are underrated.
It is the second heaviest pandemic in the world, behind the US (more than 604,000 dead) and the third highest number of infections in the world, behind those reported by the US and India.
Tunisia: Record of almost 6,800 cases and 106 deaths in 24 hours
The Tunisian Ministry of Health announced yesterday Thursday that in the previous 24 hours another 6,776 infections were confirmed by SARS-CoV-2, a record for the third consecutive day, with the total number of recorded cases reaching 426,879.
At the same time, the deaths of another 106 patients with COVID-19 increased the official death toll above the macabre 15,000 mark to 15,065.
In the face of the worsening epidemiological crisis, the governors in Tunis, Ariana, Ben Arous and Marumba decided the day before yesterday to impose a series of restrictive measures from today until July 14th. The government, however, rules out a national lockdown, arguing that the Tunisian economy would not tolerate it.
According to the Ministry of Health, the occupancy rate of beds with ventilators has exceeded 73% and that of beds in intensive care units (ICU) 89%.
Tunis does not have enough vaccine doses for COVID-19 to speed up the immunization campaign. At this stage, in the country of 12 million inhabitants, 1.84 million people have received a dose, of which almost 554,000 have received the second.
Thailand: 3rd consecutive 24 hours with record deaths, over 6,000 cases
Thai health authorities announced on Friday a new tragic record of 61 deaths of patients with COVID-19 in the past 24 hours, the third in as many days, as they find it increasingly difficult to control the new wave of the new coronavirus pandemic.
The death toll from the pandemic in the Asian country has so far reached 2,141 dead.
At the same time, 6,087 cases of SARS-CoV-2 were confirmed in the territory of the kingdom during the same period, with the total number of people that have been recorded as infected reaching 270,921.
Argentina: Another 469 deaths and over 21,000 cases in 24 hours
The Argentine Ministry of Health announced yesterday Thursday that 469 patients with COVID-19 died in the previous 24 hours and 21,177 cases of SARS-CoV-2 were confirmed.
The new coronavirus pandemic in the Latin American state has reached 94,772 deaths out of a total of 4,491,551 infections so far.
The occupancy rate of ICU beds, however, decreased to 66.3% nationwide.
Some 21.2 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in the country of 45 million people since December.
Mexico: Another 201 deaths and again over 6,000 cases in 24 hours
The Mexican Ministry of Health announced on Thursday that 201 patients with COVID-19 had died in the past 24 hours and 6,081 cases of SARS-CoV-2 had been confirmed.
Officially, the number of victims of the pandemic of the new coronavirus amounts to 233,248 dead so far out of a total of 2,525,350 infections.
However, the Mexican government acknowledges that the official report, the 4th heaviest in the world, is undervalued. Newer data on excess mortality announced yesterday Wednesday showed, for the second time this year, that deaths due to COVID-19 are actually almost 60% more than confirmed.
Iran: Another 125 deaths and more than 14,300 cases in 24 hours
Iran’s health ministry said on Thursday that another 14,303 cases of SARS-CoV-2 had been confirmed in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of people infected with the new coronavirus in the Islamic Republic to 3,218,860.
The deaths of another 125 patients with COVID-19 have increased the death toll from the pandemic to 84,389 so far since its outbreak in Iran in February 2020, according to official figures.
According to the Ministry of Health, 3,187 patients are being treated in intensive care units (ICUs) of Iranian hospitals.
By yesterday, 4.4 million people had received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine, of which 1.7 million had received both.
Earlier in the day, President Hassan Rouhani received a report on the spread of the Delta variant of the new coronavirus in the southern part of the Islamic Republic. Experts warned against the danger of a “fifth wave” in this report, according to Iranian media.
Serbia: The two cases of the Delta variant
The presence of the Delta variant of the new coronavirus was confirmed yesterday in Serbia.
“The Delta (…) variant was detected in two of our citizens who recently returned from abroad,” the Belgrade Ministry of Health said. Both are young and in stable condition. They were not vaccinated for COVID-19.
The variant Delta strain was first identified in 2020 in India.
The Serbian Ministry of Health reported another 81 confirmed cases of SARS-CoV-2 out of a total of 8,025 tests. No deaths were recorded due to COVID-19.
According to the Serbian government’s IT and e-government service, by last week almost 50% of the Balkan country’s adults had been fully immunized. In Serbia, with a population of about 7 million, about 5.2 million doses of vaccine have been administered, mainly the Chinese drug Sinopharm.
The new coronavirus pandemic in the country has exceeded 7,000 deaths out of a total of almost 720,000 infections so far.
