More than 67% of those enrolled miss the Enem reapplication test

Of the 340,659 registered for the first day of the re-application test of the National High School Exam (Enem), held last Sunday (9), only 112,931 attended. The number of absentees totaled 227,728, which represents 68.8% of those enrolled. In all, only 33.2% of the students who registered took the test.

The attendance data were released this Tuesday (11) by the National Institute of Educational Studies and Research Anísio Teixeira (Inep). The first day of the test was dedicated to knowledge of languages, writing and human sciences. The second phase, with tests in mathematics and natural sciences, will be held next Sunday (16).

The reapplication is intended for those who were enrolled in the regular Enem, but had the application impaired in some way. People deprived of liberty or under socio-educational measures that include deprivation of liberty (Enem PPL) also take the exam.

In addition, those who at the time of the first application showed some infectious condition, such as Covid-19, and those exempt from paying a fee in the 2020 Enem that were missing in the application at the time participate in the reapplication. A decision by the Federal Supreme Court (STF) guaranteed that absentees could take the 2021 test free of charge, even if there was no justification.

It was precisely among those benefiting from the STF decision that the number of abstentions was higher. Among those who obtained the right to exemption from the registration fee for this year’s test, 72.7% did not attend the application sites.

The highest attendance rate was registered among people deprived of liberty or under socio-educational measures that include deprivation of liberty, the so-called Enem PPL. Of the 54,227 registered in this type of test, 34,190 took it, which represents 63% of those enrolled.

Among the others enrolled, the highest rate of abstention was recorded in Minas Gerais, where 76.4% of the participants did not take the Enem. The state has been punished by heavy rains over the last week, which caused several floods, landslides and, consequently, interdictions on several roads and highways.
