Since the start of the war on February 24, more than seven million people have crossed into Ukraine, according to the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR)
A total of 7,023,559 border crossings have been registered since the Russian invasion began, according to an agency report on Wednesday.
The number of individual refugees from Ukraine registered across Europe was 4,712,076. The document also says that Poland, Russia and Moldova are the countries that received the most Ukrainians.
Last month, a survey showed that more than eight million people were internally displaced in Ukraine. The document is from the International Organization for Migration (IOM), a UN agency.
More than 18%, or nearly one in five people, of Ukraine’s pre-war population is now internally displaced, according to Ukraine’s 4th Internal Displacement Report.
“The needs of the internally displaced and all those affected by the war in Ukraine are growing by the hour,” said IOM Director General António Vitorino.
UN envoy warns of possible ‘human trafficking crisis’
The UN Special Representative on Sexual Violence, Pramila Patten, said on Monday that she believes the humanitarian situation in Ukraine is “turning into a human trafficking crisis”.
“Women and children fleeing conflict are being targeted for trafficking and exploitation – in some cases facing increased exposure to rape and other risks as they seek refuge,” Patten told the UN Security Council in New York.
