More than 70% of smartphone sales in the world come from just five companies

Experts from the analytical company Gartner have prepared a report that summarizes data on smartphone sales in the first quarter of 2021. The smartphone market is said to have grown by 26% over the same period last year. If in the first quarter of last year, 300 million devices were shipped, then in the last quarter – almost 378 million.

Samsung remains the largest smartphone supplier. Moreover, the South Korean manufacturer has increased shipments from 55.333 to 76.661 million units. As a result, Samsung’s share increased from 18.4% to 20.3%.

In second place is Apple. Over the year, it increased deliveries from 40.920 to 58.551 million units. This led to an increase in Apple’s share from 13.6% to 15.5%.

Next comes Xiaomi. It increased shipments from 29.678 to 48.939 million units, which resulted in an increase in the market share held by the Chinese manufacturer from 9.9% to 12.9%.

The top five are closed by Oppo and Vivo, which each own 10.2% of the market. A year ago, their shares were 7.4% and 8.0%, respectively. The total share of all other manufacturers decreased over the year from 42.6% to 30.9%.
