More than 70,000 deaths from coronavirus in Argentina – At 3.3 million cases

Argentina exceeds 70,000 deaths due to COVID-19 on Saturday from the manifestation of the pandemic of the young coronavirus in its territory, while the average number of confirmed cases on a daily basis is over 20,000, according to the authorities.

According to the Ministry of Health, as broadcast by APE-MPE, another 400 patients died during the previous 24 hours, with the pandemic toll reaching 70,253 dead.

Authorities also reported 21,469 infections, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 3,290,935 in the Latin American country of 45 million.

The most worrying indicator according to the authorities remains that of the fullness of the beds in the intensive care units (ICU), which has risen in the last nine days. According to official data, 5,517 patients with COVID-19 are being treated in the ICUs of hospitals across the country.

According to the Ministry of Health, the percentage of occupied beds in ICUs increased to 70.1% nationwide, while it reaches 76.5% in the metropolitan area of ​​Buenos Aires, where 15 million people live.

Cases of the Indian and South African variants of SARS-CoV-2 were detected last week in Argentina. They are carried by three travelers from France and Spain.

The borders remain closed; only Argentine nationals and foreign nationals are allowed to enter the territory.

Since mid-April, the government of President Alberto Fernandez has stepped up travel restrictions in a bid to curb the spread of the disease.

As for the immunization campaign, 9.9 million people have received the first dose of COVID-19 vaccines available in the country, while 1.8 million have received the second.
