In total, 42,541 rural insurance policies were activated and 38,906 loss reports (COPs) were carried out in Proagro, the Ministry of Agriculture said in a note.
The survey is based on data from insurers qualified in the Ministry’s Rural Insurance Premium Subsidy Program (PSR) and from the Central Bank of Brazil, the agency responsible for Proagro.
“The highlights are the losses in corn and soybean crops, due to the drought that affects part of some regions of the states of Paraná, Rio Grande do Sul, Mato Grosso do Sul, Santa Catarina and São Paulo”, said the folder.
Soy has almost 37 thousand claims (32% of the insurance policies) and 22.2% of the area contracted with insurance is affected, which is equivalent to 1.7 million hectares that will be inspected by the insurance companies.

Other crops have also been affected, such as beans, rice, sugar cane, fruits and vegetables, in addition to dairy farming, according to the survey.
“The drought has not stopped its effects and the crops are in the harvest period, which should change these numbers in the next survey at the end of February”, added the ministry.
In total, insurers are analyzing an insured amount of around 2.7 billion reais in indemnities. In Proagro, the amount reaches 2.3 billion.
