More than 85% of Ukrainians support Ukraine’s accession to the European Union and 76% are in favor of its membership in NATO, according to a poll conducted by the sociological group “Rating”, reports the Ukrainian news agency Ukrinform.
Before the start of the war these percentages were more than 20 percentage points below the above percentages.
“The increase in these rates is due to the increase in support for membership in Western organizations among the people of southern and eastern Ukraine. There is strong support for EU and NATO membership in all age groups,” the statement said.
Also 61% of respondents believe that Ukraine will become a member of the European Union in the near future (in the next 1-2 years). 13% believe that Ukraine will join the EU after 5 years, while 6% believe that it will become much later. 17% said they found it difficult to make an estimate. Only 4% do not believe that Ukraine will join the EU.
Compared to the previous year, the percentage of those who do not believe in Ukraine’s accession to the EU, decreased significantly, since in November 2021 this percentage was 26%.
The poll was conducted on March 1, in people over the age of 18 in all regions of Ukraine except the occupied territories of Crimea, Donetsk and Luhansk.
The poll was representative in terms of age, gender and place of residence. It was performed on a sample of 1,200 people. The method used is CATI (Computer Assisted Telephone Interviews).
