Morocco: Thousands move to say goodbye to 5-year-old pulled dead from well

Thousands of people said Monday afternoon the last goodbye to the 5 year old Ryan, who was pulled dead from a well in northern Morocco, after a five-day rescue operation. The funeral took place in the old cemetery of Duar Zawiya, six kilometers from his village of Igran, where the tragedy took place.

The child fell into a narrow anhydrous well 32 meters deep last Tuesday when his father was repairing it. At one point the little boy escaped the attention of his parents and slipped into the deep hole.

After a big operation, on Saturday night the crowd gathered around the hole that the rescuers had opened with excavators next to the well broke out in celebrations when the little one was pulled up, but very quickly the laughter turned to tears when it was revealed that the child was dead.

Rescue images went around the world

Rescue images went around the world. From Europe and Africa to Asia and America. Dozens of Moroccans gathered in the area next to the well. With prayers and exhortations they tried to give courage to the rescuers.
