Moschino, Aaron Rose Philip’s debut from Jeremy Scott is about diversity

For her return to New York Fashion Week with Moschino, Jeremy Scott wanted to bring to the catwalk not only the Ready to Wear collection for Spring / Summer 2022, but also a message of fundamental importance both for the fashion industry and for the representation of diversity in general. On a rainy catwak in Bryant Park in Manhattan, the designer staged a nostalgically kitsch show, inspired by the tea party theme, in which stars of the caliber of Gigi Hadid, Winnie Harlow and Stella Maxwell star we found Aaron Rose Philip, disabled model.

The 20-year-old, American and antiguana, in 2018, became the first black, transgender and physically disabled model to be represented by a major agency, Community New York, and has since appeared in glossy photo shoots and ad campaigns.

The debut on the catwalk of Aaron Rose Philip, however, was in 2019, when he closed a Willie Norris Workshop show, before appearing in the digital show of Collina Strada and in the brand’s lookbook. The first major fashion campaign, on the other hand, came thanks to Jeremy Scott, who chose the model as the face of Moschino for Fall / Winter 2020, photographed by Luigi & Iango.

The model has been fighting, since her first steps in fashion, for a more inclusive industry, noting since high school the lack of representation of trans and black women, not to mention anyone with a disability. On the occasion of his first show for Moschino, Aaron Rose wanted to express all his satisfaction: «It’s been a long time and I am grateful to God and to all those who have ever supported me in any way. I hope this is the beginning for many others as well and will inspire and allow more global brands at the same level to truly work to include and normalize disabled people and talents ». A fashion show that brings with it an invitation to the whole fashion system, but also a lot of freshness and playfulness: Jeremy Scott wanted to revive some childhood – so much so that Gigi Hadid paraded with a mega bottle – presenting garments with elephants, bears, and other animals in cartoon version, drawing inspiration from nursery rhymes such as Mary Had a Little Lamb, protagonist of a bag from the collection.
