Moscow accuses Washington of wanting to develop weapons in space

Russia accused the United States today of seeking to develop weapons in space, a day after the UN Security Council rejected a Russian draft resolution on the issue and following similar accusations by Washington against Moscow. This exchange of accusations revives the fear, which had disappeared after the Cold War, of a possible arms race in space, despite the existence since 1967 of an outer space treaty which calls “for the non-development of nuclear weapons or any other of the weapons of mass destruction that have been specially designed to be put into orbit'.
