“Western countries are openly calling for Ukraine to attack Russia,” Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on Thursday.
She added that the West must take Moscow seriously when it says that attacks on Russian territory will lead to a proper response.
“I would like in Kiev and in western capitals to take seriously the statements of the Ministry of Defense of our country that the continuation of provocations by Ukraine to hit Russian targets will certainly lead to a tough response from Russia. We do not advise you to continue testing our patience,” Zakharova said at a briefing.
Russia reported a series of explosions in the south of the country and a fire at an ammunition depot on Wednesday, the latest in a string of incidents that a senior Ukrainian official described as revenge and “karma” for the invasion of Moscow.
The official representative of the Russian Ministry also warned that the weapons sent by the West to Ukrainian battalions could end up with different destinations than proposed:
“You can see the parallels with the Syrian events, when weapons supplied en masse by the West to the so-called moderate Syrian opposition were sold on the black market and ended up in the hands of the Islamic State terrorists,” she added.
