Moscow asks Google to unblock 200 Russian YouTube channels

Russia has asked Google to unblock more than 200 Russian YouTube channels that have been blocked because of Kremlin “propaganda,” Russia’s TASS news agency reported today, amid regular threats targeting YouTube. Russia’s communications watchdog, Roskomnadzor, sent a letter to Google LLC chief executive Sudar Pichai asking him to “unblock on YouTube more than 200 channels of media, authorities, sports clubs and political and artistic figures who supported Russia’s policies and of its principles,” TASS reported. The agency did not specify whether that letter was accompanied by an ultimatum or a threat to block the site in Russia. Roskomnadzor did not respond to AFP’s request for comment.
