Moscow Delta variant invades: 90% of cases are infected by it

With the Indian variant of coronavirus, known as the Delta, 90% of new cases have been infected in Moscow, according to the statements made today (23/06) by the mayor of the Russian capital, Sergei Sobyanin.

The mayor of Moscow said that “the penetration of this (Indian) variant of the coronavirus began in April, continued to spread in May and has now peaked on a massive scale. This explains many things, the huge number of young people who get sick, the fact that 20-30% of people who are very seriously ill are in the intensive care unit, the increase in deaths, etc. “

Sobyanin declined to make any predictions, saying that “In my opinion the situation will be difficult, in general we should neither relax nor make any optimistic forecasts.” He also said that the health system was operating “at its limits after the outbreak of new cases, due to which stricter restrictions were imposed in the Russian capital with 13 million inhabitants.”

Russia: 17,594 new cases and 548 deaths

At the same time, the Russia announced today that in the last 24 hours 548 deaths were recorded (compared to 546 the previous day), of which 88 in Moscow, the highest number of daily deaths recorded since February 11, amid an outbreak of cases attributed by the authorities to the Indian variant of the coronavirus, known as the Delta variant.

According to the competent government body for the management of the coronavirus and as transmitted by the APE-MPE, since the beginning of the pandemic a total of 130,895 deaths have been recorded, a number that corresponds to 2.44% of the total number of cases.

The government’s pandemic management agency also said 17,594 new coronavirus cases had been reported in the past 24 hours (up from 16,715 the previous day), including 6,534 in Moscow, bringing the total to 5,368,513.
