Her Ministry of Defense of Russia issued a notice whereby denied any involvement of a Russian fighter jet in shooting down an American one drone that was flying over the Black Sea.
“On the morning of Tuesday, March 14 of this year, in the basin of the M. Sea, in the area of the Crimean peninsula, the airspace control means of the Russian Aerospace Forces recorded the flight of an American unmanned aircraft of the MQ-9 type in the direction of the borders of of the Russian Federation,” the Russian Ministry of Defense announced, according to the TASS news agency.
As the Russian Ministry claimed, “the flight was carried out with disabled transponders and in violation of the zone limits of the temporary regime of banning the use of airspace, which is set for the purposes of conducting a special military operation (including the war in Ukraine) and has be communicated to all users of international airspace and published in accordance with international rules”.
According to the Russian side, “the unmanned aircraft, due to its sharp maneuver, fell into an uncontrolled flight with a loss of height and fell on the water surface.”
“The Russian fighter jets did not use their weapon systems, did not come into contact with the drone and returned safely to their air base,” concludes the Russian Defense Ministry’s comment, relayed by Russian media.
