Moscow: Does not confirm – nor does it rule out – the deployment of Russian missiles in Cuba and Venezuela

Asked if the development of Russian military infrastructure in Venezuela or Cuba was being considered in general, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said: “I do not want to confirm or confirm anything. in this case”.

At the same time, Ryabkov said that if the United States provoked Russia and continued to exert military pressure on it, Russia could take action with its Navy. “The Russian president has repeatedly mentioned, among other things, what action could be taken, for example through the Russian Navy, if things take a complete turn in the direction of the challenges facing Russia and the further strengthening of the “Military pressure on us from the United States,” Ryabkov said.

At the same time, he noted that Russia wants to improve the bilateral agreement on the prevention of dangerous incidents at sea and in the air, which has been in force since 1972, noting that the Americans, unlike many of their NATO allies, are moving extremely slowly, “at a snail’s pace.” in this matter.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peshkov, when asked about the possibility of Russian missiles being deployed in Latin America in connection with Ryabkov’s statements, said that we should not forget that Cuba and Venezuela are sovereign states.

“As for Latin America and so on: we say there are sovereign states, so let us not forget that,” said a spokesman for the Russian president.
