The first phase of military exercises involving practical training in the preparation and use of non-strategic nuclear weapons has begun in the Southern Military District, as the Russian Defense Ministry announced today. President Vladimir Putin ordered the drills earlier this month. The Ministry of Defense says in its statement that the first phase of the exercises includes Iskander and Kinzhal missiles. “The drills are aimed at ensuring the readiness of units and equipment for the combat use of non-strategic nuclear weapons, to respond and unconditionally guarantee the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the Russian state in response to provocative statements and threats by individual Western officials against of the Russian Federation”.
