Moscow: ‘Missiles that hit a weapons depot caused a fire in the shopping center’

Russia’s Defense Ministry said today that it had fired rockets at a weapons depot in the Ukrainian city of Kremenchuk and that an explosive device had set fire to a nearby shopping mall, which Moscow said was closed.

At least 16 people were killed Monday in what Kyiv called a Russian rocket attack on a busy shopping center in Kremenchuk, which the G7 called a Russian war crime.

“In Kremenchuk, Russian forces hit a weapons depot containing high-precision weapons received from the United States and Europe. As a result of the precision strike, Western-made weapons and ammunition were stored in the depot,” the Russian military said in a statement. Ministry of Defense with a statement made public through its Telegram channel.

“The explosion of stored ammunition for western weapons caused a fire in a shopping center next to the warehouse, which was not working,” he added.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has said the mall was hit directly by Russian missiles and about 1,000 people were inside at the time of the strike.
