The telegram channel Baza, close to the Russian security forces, announced the detention of two employees of the Moscow Vykhino-Zhulebino police department – they are suspected of stealing about ten bitcoins (26 million rubles).
Investigators say that on July 19, police lieutenants named Aleksanov and Ignatov, while on duty, attacked and twisted a certain man on Privolnaya Street. The policemen told the detainee that a criminal case had been opened against him and took away his phone. The victim says that, at the request of law enforcement officers, he unlocked his smartphone, and the attackers transferred 9.6 BTC from the man’s mobile wallet to their addresses.
On September 6, Aleksanov and Ignatov were themselves detained. The operation was attended by employees of the FSB and the internal security department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Aleksanov was arrested right at work, while Ignatov was at home at the time of his arrest.
It is not yet known exactly how the police found out about the bitcoins in the victim’s wallet. The investigation continues.
On Thursday, September 7, it was reported about the arrest of two Russians in Thailand. Both are suspected of cryptocurrency fraud, with each facing up to 50 years in prison.
