THE Russia announced on Friday (17/2) that he invited the Dutchman ambassador in Moscow to provide explanations regarding the “obsessive efforts” as he described them by the Dutch government to attribute responsibility for downing of the Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 in Ukraine in 2014.
The Russian Foreign Ministry in a statement blamed the joint investigation team set up to find out who was responsible, saying that it is “politicized”.
Prosecutors for their part announced last week that they had found “serious evidence” that Russian President Vladimir Putin authorized the use in Ukraine of a BUK-type missile system that was used to shoot down the airliner over eastern Ukraine in 2014.
The summons of its ambassador will not change the Netherlands’ decision to bring to justice those responsible for the downing of the planesaid Dutch Deputy Prime Minister Sigrin Kaag.
“We look forward to international justice and intend to find the truth for the victims and their relatives” Kaag told reporters in The Hague.
“This is all part of the diplomatic game, but we know what we stand for. The ambassador will hear their message, convey it to us, and that’s all.”
Flight MH17, which had departed from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur, was shot down by a Russian BUK missile system on July 17, 2014, killing all 298 passengers and crew on board, including 196 Dutch citizens.
