Moscow switches to electric transport: 600 charging stations will be built in the capital

Today, July 15, in the official Telegram channel of the Moscow Department of Transport, information appeared that nine new charging stations for electric cars and hybrids were installed in the capital as part of the Energy of Moscow project. In total, these stations can simultaneously charge 18 cars, but the government does not plan to stop there. Alexandra Shumskaya, the head of the Energy of Moscow project, said that by 2023 they plan to install 600 stations for charging electric cars in the Russian capital – 200 stations in one year. This is necessary for a comfortable transition of car owners from internal combustion engines to environmentally friendly vehicles.

Shumskaya added that charging stations for electric cars should be located in an accessible place for a motorist – next to work, home, business centers, shops, shopping centers and cafes. Accordingly, in order to cover such an impressive list of locations, there must be a lot of charging stations, and the charging power must be at a level so that the owner can charge the electric car in about the time of taking a cup of coffee, that is, in no more than 20 minutes. Considering the desire to reduce harmful emissions to a minimum, as well as the active transition to electric cars around the world, this seems quite logical.

However, the plan of the program does not end with electric cars alone – the government also allocates significant resources for purchasing electric buses, expanding the network of electric scooters and electric bicycles, and creating the necessary infrastructure. For example, already now the number of electric buses in the capital has reached 600 units, which is almost three times more than in Paris. And if the plan of the program is fulfilled, by 2023 there will already be 2,275 electric buses in Moscow, and the number of quick charges for public transport will significantly increase.
