The Kremlin has warned that its armed forces will make an “appropriate response” to the UK’s decision to supply Kiev with long-range missiles.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov condemned the move during a conference call with journalists on Thursday, pledging a Russian response.
“This will require an adequate response from our military, who will naturally make relevant decisions with this in mind,” added Peskov.
A CNN reported that the UK had supplied Ukraine with several Storm Shadow cruise missiles, citing several senior Western officials.
The missiles have a maximum range of 250km and give Ukrainian forces a new long-range strike capability ahead of a highly anticipated counter-offensive.
UK Defense Secretary Ben Wallace is expected to announce to the House of Commons that the UK is sending Storm Shadow missiles to Ukraine.
The missile is “a real game-changer from a range perspective,” a senior US military official told CNN and gives Kiev a capability it has been asking for since the beginning of the war.
