Most Brazilians take at least one leisure trip a year

Six out of ten Brazilians travel at least once a year for leisure. This is what the most recent study on tourism trends for the 2025 summer season points out, carried out by the Ministry of Tourism in partnership with Nexus, a research and data intelligence company.

Within the population of travelers (61%), 33% travel once a year, 22% between two and three times and 6% four times or more.

Natural beauty, affordable prices and the possibility of meeting friends and family are the most important factors for choosing national trips. Salvador, Florianópolis, Amazônia and Rio de Janeiro are the most popular destinations.

Beaches were chosen as the favorite tourist attractions of 53% of Brazilians. Nature and ecotourism appear in second place, chosen by 29% of the population. In third position, cultural or historical attractions and those focused on health and well-being represent 16% of the choices. Religious tourism and gastronomic trips attract 12% of tourists.

Most Brazilians want to “tourist” in their own country. When asked if they received a prize to travel to any destination, 63% of respondents reported that they would choose a domestic destination, while 35% would decide to travel abroad.

The survey also revealed that 47% of respondents turned to social networks, such as Instagram, Facebook, X and TikTok, to seek information about travel.

According to those interviewed, air transport, accommodation and food are the main costs of travel.

The study “Summer Tourism Trends 2025 – behavior of the Brazilian population” consulted 5,542 people aged 16 and over across Brazil. The interviews were carried out between October 14th and 28th, 2024.
