Most road transport entrepreneurs are against Petrobras’ pricing policy, survey shows

A survey promoted by the CNT (National Confederation of Transport), obtained exclusively by the CNN Brazilshows that 87.5% of Brazilian businessmen in the road freight transport segment are against Petrobras’ current pricing policy.

The survey, carried out with 464 businessmen in the segment who operate throughout the country, still points out that for 82.3% the price of diesel is today the main difficulty faced by transport companies. And for 81.5%, the operating cost with the greatest impact is the value of fuel.

This Wednesday (6), the federal government appointed a new president for Petrobras after criticism from President Jair Bolsonaro that the current administration failed to pass on to the consumer market the increase in the price of a barrel of oil.

The price policy of the state-owned company is based on the international price of a barrel of oil and the exchange rate of the dollar against the real. The last adjustment in fuel prices by Petrobras took place on March 10, when the state-owned company raised the price of gasoline by 18% and that of diesel by 25% at refineries, after 57 days without changes.

The survey carried out by the transport entity also shows that, for 46.1% of the entrepreneurs interviewed, the economic segment faces difficulties in hiring labor due to lack of professional experience. The main shortage pointed out by 65.1% is the hiring of drivers, with 44.6% having job vacancies available.

The lack of safety on the country’s roads is also pointed out as a factor that makes professional activity difficult. The survey shows that 62.5% have already been the target of cargo theft and that 74.8% have contracted insurance for their entire fleet.

The survey also shows that 59.6% of cargo transport companies adopt environmental preservation initiatives. The survey was carried out from September 8 to October 8. The margin of error is 4.5 percentage points, with a 95% confidence level.
