Milene Bagalho Estevam was an investigator for the São Paulo Civil Police seven years ago and was shot dead by businessman and president of Biofast, Rogério Saladino, last Saturday night (16).
Milene graduated in law and was approved by the Brazilian Bar Association (OAB) in 2007. Before joining the corporation, the police officer worked at the TozziniFreire office, a legal services organization present in five Brazilian cities, New York and Europe.
In October 2022, the investigator was praised for her relevance in the institution for clarifying the crime and identifying the perpetrator involved in the death of a military police officer.
Milene worked at the 1st Police Station for Investigations into Robbery and Robbery, a unit belonging to the Division of Investigations into Crimes Against Property (DISCCPAT), of the State Department of Criminal Investigations (DEIC).
“It is the duty of the public administration to praise functional acts that, due to their relevance to the Institution and the community, deserve general recognition, considering the efficient investigative work carried out”, says a 2022 note from the police.
Milene was 39 years old, lived in Jardim São Paulo, North Zone of São Paulo and leaves behind a five-year-old daughter.
In a statement on social media, the corporation reported the death of the investigator, saying that she died carrying out her role. “The Civil Police extends its most sincere sympathies to the family and friends.”
Who is Rogério Saladino
Rogério Saladino, 56 years old, worked in the field of medicine and diagnostics, as president of Biofast, a network of Brazilian laboratories.
According to the company’s official website, the network operates with clinical analysis, imaging diagnosis, pathological anatomy and toxicological examinations, in eight units in the state of São Paulo.
Rogério Saladino was in a relationship with model and architect Bianca Klamt, who has almost 60 thousand followers on Instagram. On social media, Bianca reports that the couple was having lunch at home, on Saturday afternoon, with few people, hours before her partner’s death.
The model says on her profile: “my heart is in tears. Thank you for the moments with our family. He was an out-of-the-box man.”
In a statement, Rogério’s family thanked the expressions they received and asked that the family’s privacy be preserved.
“Rogério Saladino was a successful businessman, an entrepreneur who trusted Brazil. The tragedy that occurred yesterday claimed the lives of a competent civil police officer, a professional who worked at the residence and Rogério Saladino himself”, says the text.
Photographer Fred Pontes, responsible for several of the businessman’s snaps, reported on social media that Salabino’s wake will take place this Monday (18), between 8am and 4pm, in the Morumbi cemetery chapel.
The case
According to the Civil Police, on Saturday (16), two police officers from the State Department of Criminal Investigations (DEIC) went to a street in Jardins, an upscale neighborhood in São Paulo, to investigate a home robbery that had occurred the night before.
Upon arriving at the address, Milene Estevam and another civil police officer who accompanied her, approached Alex James Gomes Mury, a security guard at Rogério Saladino’s house, asking him for access to the images from the home’s security cameras.
Alex then went to talk to Rogério to get permission to transfer the images. According to the police report, witnesses told the police that Rogério went to the guardhouse of the house and, suspecting that they were fake police officers, took two weapons (a 380, registered in his name, and a 45, unregistered) and shot twice upwards.
Soon after, he opened the gate of the residence and shot at the civil police officers. The shots hit investigator Milene, who fell after being hit. The police officer accompanying Milene returned fire, hitting Rogério Saladino.
After seeing the businessman fall, security guard Alex James took one of the weapons he had with Rogério and tried to shoot the civil police officer, who retaliated. Alex was hit and died at the scene.
Rogério was taken to Hospital São Paulo, but he succumbed to his injuries and died. Milene Estevam was also rescued, but died at Santa Casa.
