Police arrested preventively last Tuesday (6) the mother and stepfather of a one-year-old baby who died in Taquara, in the interior of Rio Grande do Sul. The couple is suspected of beating, torturing and choking the baby to death. The case occurred on April 8th.
According to the Civil Police, the child was taken lifeless to the Hospital of Taquara. The pair told the police that the baby would have fallen from bed. However, a report from the General Institute of Expertise (IGP) pointed to lesions in the head region, chest and back. The cause of death was head trauma.
“We have no doubt that this boy was cruelly beaten in the last hours of life, considering the injuries that the corpse had,” said the delegate responsible for the investigation, Valeriano Garcia Neto.
According to the delegate, the couple lived in a locality in the rural area of ​​Taquara. In the house, police found at least two other children, under 7 years old, who were welcomed by the Guardianship Council. The relationship of children with prisoners was not informed.
The man and the woman must go through a custody hearing. The investigation follows to understand the circumstances of the crime.
