Shelbie Lenora is a content creator on TikTok who shared a video that has gone viral on social media after stating that if there were complications in her delivery, to the point of having to choose between her baby’s life or hers, she would rather be saved.
In a few lines that she wrote next to the controversial clip, the young woman implied that her decision had to do with the fact that, apparently, she has more young children at home, whom she does not want to leave alone.
However, her position seemed quite selfish to most network users, who did not hesitate to make their comments, some quite aggressive, because they cannot understand how a mother can think in this way. In interview with Newsweek, Shelbie expressed her feelings about it.
I got absolutely a backlash. I’ve been told that I don’t deserve my children, that my children are better off without me, and some things harder than that. I knew I’d get different points of view from people, I’ll just never understand the need to be so nasty when you don’t agree on a topic.
Although there were also those who supported the decision of the tiktoker, since they mentioned that it was very difficult to grow up without the love of a mother. But Shelbie understands that these kinds of topics will always generate controversy.
It really seems that if you go through the comments, a lot of people agree with me and are glad that I talked about it because it made them feel that their feelings about it were valid. Anything to do with the subject of children is difficult for people to discuss, and mothers are fiercely defending their children. Therefore, there will always be mixed reactions.
Finally, Shelbie reported that her priorities changed when she was the mother of four children, since she feels that she could not leave them alone, assuring that if she were a new mother, then she would have no problem prioritizing her baby’s life.
I think a lot of people assumed that I was talking about a topic that I had no personal experience with, and that’s simply not the case. I stand by what I said and I’m glad it put other moms at ease when they thought they were being selfish.
