Last Friday (6), the Court of Rio Grande do Sul denied the request to extend the temporary arrest of Carla Carolina Abreu Souza, investigated for involvement in the death of her daughter, Kerollyn Souza Ferreira, 9 years old, found dead on August 9 of this year, in a garbage container, in the city of Guaíba, in the metropolitan region of Porto Alegre.
Judge Andreia da Silveira Machado, of the 1st Criminal Court of the District of Guaíba, argued that the suspect’s temporary arrest, which is valid until this Sunday (8), is no longer necessary for the investigation to proceed. Although there are pending expert reports related to the case, the judge understands that the suspect cannot interfere with police work.
“The extension of temporary detention will only occur in cases of extreme and proven necessity, depending on the indication of subsequent investigative steps that prove necessary, the execution of which demonstrates the imperative need for detention, which was not referenced by the police authority in the present representation-extension”, argued the judge.
By court order, Carla Carolina will not be able to leave the city where she lives without prior authorization and will have to appear in court monthly. She is also prohibited from having contact with her other children.
